Guy Fieri Is Bringing Flavortown to Disney World

The struggling Planet Hollywood chain is about to get some life breathed into it thanks to Guy Fieri. The chain’s unit in Walt Disney World just reopened as the newly christened Planet Hollywood Observatory in Orlando’s Disney Springs, and the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives TV host has been tapped to revamp its sandwich menu. Fieri’s special sandwiches and burgers include Pimento Grilled Cheese, Championship Pulled Pork, and Fieri’s favorite “Mayor of Flavortown” burger, topped with pastrami on a pretzel bun. “Guy fits in with the profile of our guests,” Robert Earl, Planet Hollywood founder and CEO, told Nation’s Restaurant News.

Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Milk Stout is the new brew brainchild of Braxton Brewing Co. in Covington, Kentucky, just across the river from Cincinnati, and Graeter's Ice Cream. The beer was inspired by the Cincinnati-based ice cream company’s popular flavor featuring black raspberries from Oregon’s Willamette Valley and gourmet bittersweet chocolate chips. The beer is brewed with Graeter’s exclusive black raspberry purée. “Over the past six months, our teams have taken this project from imagination to one of the best tasting stouts we’ve ever created,” said Jake Rouse, co-founder and CEO of Braxton Brewing, in a statement. The limited-edition brew will be introduced Feb. 3, at a Tapping Party at Braxton Brewing Co; it will be available at Kroger stores thereafter.

France Bans Free Soda Refills in Effort to Curb Obesity Rate

In recent years, there has been an international trend of governments, local and otherwise, actively fighting rising obesity rates. This week, France banned free sugary drink refills. The law takes place immediately and applies to restaurants, fast-food chains, schools, and camps. The obesity rate in France is 15.3 percent, which is lower than the average European Union rate of 15.9 percent and significantly less alarming than America’s 36.5 percent, according to The New York Times. Even so, France is one of the first European countries to pass strict laws like this one. The soda refill ban follows France’s sugary drink tax that passed five years ago.

The latest food mashup that has everyone talking is the Burgrito, a burger-burrito that just came to Brooklyn, courtesy of Burgrito’s, a restaurant that got its start in Bethpage, Long Island. The Burgrito is made with two beef patties, American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, and French fries, all wrapped up in a tortilla and dressed in chipotle sauce. You can get the Burgrito at the restaurant’s new location in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood for $9.99. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, no worries: There’s also a Veg-rito on the menu that’s made with a veggie burger.

Planet Hollywood, the themed restaurant dedicated to celebrating the entertainment industry, recently revealed the new menu for its transformed Orlando flagship location, set to reopen this fall as Planet Hollywood Observatory in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort. New dining options will highlight Planet Hollywood&rsquos classic dishes introduce selections by chef, restaurateur and television personality Guy Fieri and add a lineup of over-the-top sweets.

&ldquoWe&rsquove spent an enormous amount of time developing new menu offerings for Planet Hollywood Observatory and striking a balance with keeping our favorites in place,&rdquo said Robert Earl, Founder and Chairman, Planet Hollywood International. &ldquoWe&rsquore excited to offer even more options for our guests, ranging from appealing starters, to light and healthy salads, to indulgent steak and lobster&mdashand everything in between. Fieri&rsquos new &ldquoBig Bite Burgers&rdquo and &ldquoKnuckle Sandwiches&rdquo feature six burger choices, including Fieri&rsquos award-winning Bacon Mac-N-Cheese with applewood smoked bacon, six-cheese mac-n-cheese, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, crispy onion straws, Fieri&rsquos signature Donkey Sauce, garlic-buttered brioche bun The Mayor of Flavortown seasoned pastrami, swiss cheese, caraway slaw, pickles, Dijon mustard and Donkey Sauce on a garlic-buttered pretzel bun and the Prime Time American Kobe with American-style kobe beef, smoked gouda, cheddar, caramelized onion jam, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, crispy onion straws, Donkey Sauce, garlic-buttered brioche bun .

A Lobster Feast Fra Diavolo, a spaghetti favorite served in a whole lobster shell and a Sesame Ginger Salmon with cilantro rice are two of eight gussied-up specialty offerings. Steak and rib selections &ndash including the 20 ounce, bone-in NY Strip Steak for two served with roasted garlic and herb butter, steak fries and green bean blend &ndash can now be upgraded to &ldquosurf & turf&rdquo status with the accompaniment of a whole steamed lobster.

Vegetarians can try Fieri&rsquos take on the scratch-made Morgan&rsquos Veggie, a burger of black and white beans, chickpeas, oats, artichokes, roasted red pepper with cilantro aioli, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, toasted wheat bun and a Pimento Grilled Cheese six-cheese mac-n-cheese, pimento cheese, garlic-buttered sourdough. Healthy options for guests include a selection of five fresh salads like the Citrus Kale, a combination of kale, julienned broccoli, slivered Brussels sprouts and cabbage, feta, grapefruit, oranges, cranberries, sunflowers seeds, agave dressing and Spinach & Berries with candied walnuts, bleu cheese crumbles and balsamic vinaigrette.

For a sweet finish &ldquoHand-Dipped and Whimsical Milkshakes&rdquo include Chocolate Comet and Strawberry Borealis. The dessert menu is filled with goodies such as the Cosmic Cream Challenge, a blind tasting of 12 flavors of house-made ice creams and sorbets Planet Melt Down, a chocolate hardshell dome, melted tableside by hot chocolate sauce to reveal double chocolate fudge cake, fresh strawberries and whipped cream and Brownie Sundae Martini, 12 decadent chunks of freshly baked brownies layered with six scoops of vanilla and chocolate ice cream with toppings.

The all-new Stargazers Lounge features live music and a dedicated menu focused on Florida craft beers from breweries like Funky Buddha, Bold City, Cigar City and Swamp Head and has hand-crafted cocktails made with local fresh ingredients, like the Cosmic Mule New Amsterdam vodka, Limoncino Bottega & Real ginger-infused syrup. Keeping in theme with Planet Hollywood&rsquos whimsical nature, spirits are given equal attention with monstrous beverages served in souvenir vessels including the Halley&rsquos Comet served in a 45 oz. Planet-bowl and the Planetary Punch Monkey served in a 21 oz. Comet Glass.
